NILES, Ill. - Two cleaning women, trapped inside a broken elevator for two days, survived on two cough drops and six aspirin until they were rescued.

Beata Bartoszewicz and her mother, Roma Borowski, entered an elevator in an empty building in this Chicago suburb on Dec. 22. After the elevator doors closed, the women discovered they were stuck on the first floor of the two-story building.

There was no response from an emergency call alarm and the women couldn't pry open the doors, Bartoszewicz said. Neither had a cell phone or water and the building wasn't due to open until after Christmas.

The duo became dizzy from hunger. "I was close to thinking I was going to die," Bartoszewicz said. The women tried to sleep on their coats and used a corner of the elevator as a bathroom.

Two days later, on Christmas Eve, an employee of the building happened to go to work. Borowski said she heard him talking on his cell phone. The women yelled for his attention and he heard them. Fire crews freed the women an hour later.

Bartoszewicz said the moral of the story is simple: "Always take your cell phone with you."

I'll be taking the stairs from now on...

Ft. Worth TX. - A local anti-cleaning women, trapped inside a stairwell for two days, failed to survive on 50 Motrin and six xanax. Karen Eekoszewicz entered the stairwell headed for her third floor doctor's office and collapsed in the corner adjacent to the exit door. Thinking the woman was intoxicated or homeless, not one of the other two people taking the stairs reported that there was a fat, old woman sleeping in the stairwell. Officials determined Ms. Eekoszewicz was in fact dead when they didn't hear any snoring coming from the victim.

There is evidence that Ms. Eekoszewicz had tried to locate her cell phone in her purse but found the drug supply first. "She must have become dizzy while digging through the oversized purse", an observer obsered. Officials say the purse most likely added trauma to the trip up the stairwell. Fire crews and several large freight movers were used to extract the woman from the building.

The moral of the story is simple: "Always take more than 6 xanax with you."
